Orthodontics is entering an era where clinical excellence is no longer driven solely by experience and intuition, but is increasingly strengthened by data, computation, and intelligent decision making. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative innovations in modern healthcare, redefining the way clinicians diagnose diseases, predict treatment outcomes, and personalize patient care. Within orthodontics, this technological revolution is paving the way for predictive, precision based treatment that has the potential to improve accuracy, efficiency, and long-term stability.
This book, "AI in Predictive Orthodontics," was conceived with the vision of bridging the gap between rapidly evolving artificial intelligence technologies and everyday orthodontic practice. While numerous advancements in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and predictive analytics are being reported across scientific literature, there remains a need for a comprehensive yet clinically relevant resource that presents these concepts in a structured and practical manner for students, researchers, academicians, and practicing orthodontists.
The chapters of this book guide the reader through the evolution of artificial intelligence in orthodontics, beginning with its fundamental principles and progressing toward its applications in diagnosis, cephalometric analysis, three-dimensional imaging, treatment planning, tooth movement prediction, growth assessment, relapse forecasting, digital workflow integration, and ethical considerations. Equal emphasis has been placed on the opportunities, limitations, and future directions of AI, ensuring that readers develop not only technical understanding but also critical clinical insight.
The future of orthodontics lies in the harmonious collaboration between clinician judgment and intelligent technology, where AI enhances precision while the orthodontist continues to provide the indispensable elements of empathy, ethics, experience, and individualized patient care.
Every effort has been made to compile current scientific evidence and present it in a logical, reader friendly format. However, artificial intelligence is one of the fastest evolving fields in medicine and dentistry. As new algorithms, technologies, and clinical applications continue to emerge, this book should be viewed as a foundation upon which future knowledge will continue to build.
It is my sincere hope that this book inspires postgraduate students, researchers, educators, and clinicians to embrace innovation while maintaining the principles of evidence based orthodontics. If it encourages readers to think critically, explore emerging technologies, and ultimately improve patient care, then its purpose will have been fulfilled.

Dr. Vidhi Gopalani is a Postgraduate Student in Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, a compassionate
researcher, and a passionate writer whose clinical work is driven by a deep commitment to providing
comprehensive dental care for children, including those with special healthcare needs. She has
completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Hitkarini Dental College and Hospital,
Jabalpur (M.P.), and is currently pursuing her Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Pediatric and
Preventive Dentistry at the same institution.
During her postgraduate training, Dr. Vidhi has developed a keen interest in cleft lip and palate
management, focusing on pre-surgical nasoalveolar molding (NAM) and comprehensive care for
affected infants.
Her enthusiasm for Pre-Surgical Nasoalveolar Molding (PNAM) stems from a desire to reduce
surgical burden, improve long-term outcomes, and provide holistic support to families navigating
complex care pathways from the very beginning of a child's life.
By merging clinical precision with a natural gift for clear, empathetic writing, Dr. Vidhi aims to
bridge the gap between advanced clinical techniques and practical execution. This book reflects her
unwavering dedication to empowering clinicians, postgraduate students, and parents with an
accessible, evidence based roadmap to early cleft intervention.
