Biomimetics is not a recent study or trend, but the idea of looking into nature for inspiration has been in practical use for a long time. It has been called by different names such as “intellectual structure” in Japan and “smart material” in the USA. Biomimetics is centered on the idea that there is no model better than nature for developing something new and has produced excellent results in productivity and function. This idea has also opened doors to realistic gains by eliminating waste and saving in

research expenses. Biomimetics has the potential to accelerate innovation in many fields including engineering, architecture, synthetic chemistry and medicine. Although the past 10 years has witnessed a surge of interest in biomimetics and biomimicry in many disciplines, such as robotics, tissue engineering, architecture and material design, its development in the biomedical sciences has been limited. In dentistry biomimetics is widely used for regeneration of dental structures and replacement of lost dental tissues. There is no biomaterial that has the same, mechanical, physical and optical properties as tooth structure (i.e., dentin, enamel, and cementum) and possesses the physiological characteristics of intacttee thin function. By using biomimetic therapeutic approaches, dental professionals can improve and become closer to natural biological structures and their function.
