Preface
Oral cancer remains one of the most challenging malignancies, posing significant global health concerns due to its complex nature and high morbidity and mortality rates. As advancements in research continue to uncover the intricate pathways involved in cancer progression, understanding the immunopathogenesis of oral cancers has become increasingly critical. This book is a culmination of my academic journey, clinical observations, and research endeavours, aimed at shedding light on the pivotal role of the immune system in the development, progression, and potential treatment of oral cancer.
My motivation for writing this book stems from a deep desire to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in oral pathology while addressing critical gaps in understanding the interplay between the immune system and tumour biology. With a foundation in Oral Pathology (BDS, MDS) and further enriched by my training in Social Work, I bring a multidisciplinary perspective to this subject, balancing the scientific rigour with a human-centred approach to healthcare.
This book is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms underlying the immune response in oral cancer, including the dual role of the immune system in tumour suppression and progression. By exploring molecular pathways, cellular interactions, and emerging therapeutic strategies, I aim to create a resource that will serve clinicians, researchers, and students in the fields of oral pathology, oncology, and immunology.
I sincerely hope that this work will not only deepen the reader’s understanding of oral cancer immunopathogenesis but also inspire further research and innovation in this critical field. I believe that by enhancing our understanding of these processes, we can pave the way for improved diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions, ultimately contributing to better outcomes for patients.
